About Us

Proficient Balancing Company formerly known as Plamondon Balancing has been performing Testing and Balancing services in the Rocky Mountain region since 1999. The company was founded by Robert (Bob) Plamondon as a LLC in the state of Colorado.

Bob learned about balancing while studying heating, refrigeration and air conditioning at Ferris State University. After graduating in 1981 he moved to Denver, Colorado and began his HVAC career. Bob’s HVAC experience includes: commercial HVAC estimator, commercial service technician and a licensed sheet metal Journeyman.

In 1987, the University of Colorado Facilities Department hired Bob as their Lead Sheet Metal Worker. After meeting the Staff P.E., Bob got the opportunity to balance in-house designed projects. While under the P.E.’s supervision, Bob balanced a variety of HVAC systems on the Health Sciences Center campus. They included systems for Fume Hood Laboratories, Biosafety Laboratories, Surgical Clinics, Clean and Dirty rooms, Animal Housing Facilities, Power Plants, Classrooms, Patient Rooms and many Offices. The HVAC equipment included single-duct VAVs, dual-duct VAVs, Fan Powered VAVs, Fan Coil Units, Steam Coils, Chilled Water and Reheat Water Coils, Biosafety Exhaust and Supply Fans, VFD operated Exhaust and Supply Fans and Induction Units.

All of these diverse systems inspired Bob to take a Testing and Balancing HVAC Air and Water Systems correspondence course administered by Sam Sugarman. Sam has many years of hands-on field testing and conducting Testing and Balancing HVAC Air and Water Systems seminars throughout the USA. Also, Sam is well known by the Associated Air Balance Council (AABC), Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) and the National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) organizations.

Restless for a new endeavor, Bob left the University of Colorado after 12 years of testing and balancing at the University of Colorado. And, influenced by the independence requirement and well-regarded reputation of AABC, Bob became an AABC certified Test and Balance Engineer in 2005. Also, he’s a member of ASHRAE.
